Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a type of FEA, but is used exclusively to determine responses of fluids and gases. Fluid/gas temperature and pressure can produce stresses on the container and associated structures; Eclipse can incorporate all the relevent factors, providing analysis and design for the complete system, including fluid/gas, container, and internal/support structures. Generally, we can perform the following:

  • Determine temperature distribution in fluids/gases or equipment
  • Determine temperature and velocity profiles for different conditions
  • Provide a favorable flow distribution
  • Determine scale-up anomalies
  • Avoid equipment fatigue failures due to repeated exposure to temperature gradients

Coal-Fired Power Generation

Eclipse uses Fluent CFD software to optimize the flow characteristics of large ducts and associated equipment for its customers in the coal-fired power generation business. A well designed system will require less boost from fans and reduce particulate fallout. Eclipse is also adept at optimizing vane arrangement and location.

Chemical Processing Equipment

Our CFD analysis can:

  • Maximize heat transfer
  • Determine temperature distribution of the gas, fluid, or equipment, which can be used for a subsequent stress analysis
  • Optimize heat exchanger baffling arrangement
  • Analyse mixing due to stirring or injection
